Ginger Essential Oil

ginger

Warming, Increases circulation, Soothes nausea

Those are the first 3 things that come to mind when I think of Ginger (Zinginger officinale) essential oil.  With the weather cooling down and cold & flu season in the air, ginger is one of the first essential oils I think of for it’s warming properties.  Ginger also reminds me of the holidays and energizes me this time of year.  Here are some more therapeutic properties of ginger.

  • Mild pain reliever
  • Good for headaches
  • Good for digestion
  • Soothes menstrual cramps
  • Soothes arthritis
  • Helps reduce fevers
  • Aphrodisiac
  • Energizes & Stimulates

One safety issue important to note with Ginger is it can be skin irritating.  Always dilute ginger in lotion or a carrier oil like almond or jojoba oil.

Recipes for using Ginger essential oil:

  • Tummy Soother
  • Add 3 drops ginger, 2 drops peppermint and 3 drops orange to 1 ounce lotion
  • Great for nausea of all sorts from car sickness to just too much holiday eating
  • Bedroom Spice

  •  What experiences do you have with ginger essential oil?  Which recipe would you like to try?  Do you cook with ginger?
